  • September 2025 Fishing Report

    Hello fellow anglers September in S.W. Florida and we are almost half way through Hurricane season. Depending on the weather , winds as to being able to go offshore for snapper this month. Some of the deeper reefs you can find some nice yellow tail snapper. They usually like structures that have lots of relief. I feel it is best to anchor up current of the structure and chum the snapper to you away from the structure. These types of structure in S.W. Florida are loaded with goliath grouper and it is a challenge to get your catch to the boat before they grab it and head into the structure. And there is a good chance there maybe some sharks too. And there could be some barracudas that will steal half of your catch. So it can be very rewarding if you get them to the boat whole. If it gets to bad you may have to pack up and find another spot to fish. Like if you have to tie on five hooks in a row without getting a fish in the boat its time to move. So if you move to some natural bottom in 60+ feet of water you can find a spot that will have some nice lane snapper , they are great to eat. For me they are as good as ARS just in a smaller body. Check the regulations for the amberjack/reef donkey they are lots of fun and are great for smoked fish dip. If you use fish rules they have the Federal regulations for the species that you can harvest when you go out past 12 miles in to Federal waters. So moving inshore near shore. Along the coast you may find some schools of the bull reds the breeding stock and they are usually over the 27″ limit. The big reds can also be found just inshore on the grass beds where there are plenty of finfish for a hearty meal. They come to fatten up to go offshore to spawn in deep waters. You may also find a cobia cruising the edges of the sandbar looking for food. This also is a great month to catch your Grand Slam. Yes a snook , red, trout and a tarpon to complete your Grand Slam. As the waters start to cool down there should be some pompano coming inshore they like to skip behind you boat. If you see this turn around and cast a jig to the area where you saw them skip or if you have a shrimp try one under a bobber. So if you are interested in coming along with Capt. Bart Marx give me a call 941-979-6517 or e-mail me captbart@alphaomegacharters.com We can set up a trip on my boat to show you some of the methods of how to catch some of these species. And I also do training sessions where you hire me to come on your boat and teach you where you can take your boat and show you how to use some of the tackle and rods you already have. I do this for inshore fishing 8 hours or less. And I also do it offshore too for eight hours or less. While  the holidays are just around the corner I do have gift certificates for a gift that they can schedule there trip if they are coming from up North. Or it could be a Birthday gift or even for Christmas. So always remember singing drags and tight lines make me smile. <*(((((>{
