  • January 2026 Fishing Report

    Hello fellow anglers. January in S.W. Florida once again. Beginning a new season for fishing. This month there should be plenty of those spotted sea trout hanging out on the grass flats lying in the little sand patches waiting for a non-suspecting bait to swim by and ambush it for a meal. Around the docks and seawalls with big rocks will be holding some sheepshead, they like to eat crustaceans. Flounder can be found closer to the Gulf in preparation to go offshore to spawn. Redfish should be along the edges of the mangrove and in the small creeks throughout our area. Going offshore this month there should be plenty of snapper to target. Mangrove and lane snapper are good table fare and they can be found in forty to eighty feet of water. Also, in this rand there are some hogfish on some of the bigger ledges and artificial structure. They’re crustacean eaters too so if you are going offshore take some live shrimp with you if you are trying to target them. This is a good month for white grunts, they like the cooler water and they are plentiful. If you have ever been to the Keys and had grits and grunts these are the fish. They are one of the fish that are very good eating fresh never frozen. If you mix grunt filets and snapper and fry them you can’t tell the difference. So, if you would like to come along and learn some of these skills to harvest some fish, or there are lots of new folks moving here and have your own boat and would like to have a training session on your boat with your gear give Capt. Bart Marx a call at 941-979-6517 or e-mail me at captbart@alphaomegacharters.com. Or, if you are reading this and you know someone coming into town to visit I have gift certificates available too, or for even someone’s birthday. So give me a call and always remember, singing drags and tight lines make me smile.<*(((((>{
