November Fishing Report

Hello fellow anglers, November is here and for me this is the month that we have a big feed at the end of the month. With the way things have been business has been slow for this fishing guide. I still get out on the water with friends to do a little fishing and visit the Fish Shack off Pine Island. It is nice to go to the Shack and relax, very little traffic/boat traffic and enjoy Gods creation all around you. Dolphins chasing there next meal, all kinds of birds flying by or swimming by. Sharks cruising the flats looking for food.  S.W. Florida in November with the weather changing is a nice time of year, to get out and do some fishing or just spend some time on the water.  As the seasons change here in Florida fishing changes too. With the cold fronts that push the big bait balls South the kings and Spanish will be close behind. Also as the waters cool the triple tails will be found nose up to the stone crab trap buoys out in the Gulf, there plenty of anglers that like to run the traps and target them. If you like to run deep 80 + feet you can find the aj’s and blackfin tuna around wrecks and good bottom structure. Also offshore in 50 to 70 ft. you can find lanes and mangrove snapper maybe even a gag grouper, catch and release only check regulations to see when they open for sure. Also closer to shore you may hook into some of the breeder red fish while you are trolling for the kings. So going back and talking about the triple tail, some like to bring live shrimp to cast to these prehistoric looking creatures. You can use most any small live baits to target this species. Travel along the traps from the stone crab pots and look for what looks like a plastic bag or a lump of grass just under the buoy. Be careful not to spook the fish by backing off the throttle. Be patient and drive past it and turn the boat around an approach the buoy from the leeward side. So this makes it easier to cast and not drift over the buoy and spook the fish away. This is when you have your red fish rod set up with 20lb. leader and a 1/0 hook with a shrimp or small fish. Approach the buoy close enough to cast just past it, make the cast and reel the bait with in a couple of feet. This is when you may spook the fish stop reeling and let the bait swim or sink and keep your eyes on the prize and wait till you feel the fish pulling line before you set the hook. This is hard to do it is not natural to see the fish take it without setting the hook. If you miss try again cast and so on. I and some other guys like to use artificials to do this. Yes I use 3 or 4 inch D.O.A. shrimp rigged with the hook ready to fish. Use the same technique with the D.O.A. shrimp as live. Choose the color to match the hatch what ever the color of the shrimp at the bait shop try to imitate it. This is also a great time of year to do some Christmas shopping we have Alpha Omega Charters gift certificates for sale. You contact Capt. Bart and agree on the trip for your guest and we will send it and you can present it in an manner you like, in a Huge box. Then they can call and set the date and time to meet there needs. They are good for one year after the month of purchase so they have plenty of time to use them. I also do trips for anglers new to the area on there boat to help shorten the learning curve. I taught the Don Ball school of Fishing in Port Charlotte for 10 years. I teach how to use the gear you have and where you can take your boat. So if I could assist you in any of these areas call Capt. Bart Marx 941-979-6517 or e-mail me at captbart@alphaomegacharters.com the phone call will get a quicker response. And always remember singing drags and tight lines make me smile. <*(((((>{
